What is
Velour?
| |
Velour is a type of
fabric that is knit, stretchy, and looks a lot like velvet. It is sort of a bridge, actually,
between velvet and stretchy materials like spandex.
A lot of people make
velour from cotton, but it can be made out of other materials too, such as
polyester.
It is used for a lot
of different things, but is usually utilized for either clothing, such as the velour tracksuit, or upholstery
applications.

Velour is used by dancers and athletic activities a lot
because it is lightweight, but it is also warm and comfortable, so a lot of people also utilize it on a
casual level.

Interestingly enough, one of the most
popular uses for velour is known for its role in the original Star Trek series. This material was what made up the
uniforms of the crew members.
Velour is also used in theaters as
curtain material, and is also popular as a material to make drapes out of. Velour has also found use as a mattress
or pillow covering, especially for people who use luxury mattresses. Robes, shirts, undergarments, and exercise
wear are only a few of the many clothing applications of velour. Men's velour track suits and women's velour track
suits have surged in popularity in recent years.
As you can see, there are a number of
uses for this type of material, and the fabric can be obtained by buying it stock or by buying products made from
it. If you are interested in making your own velour products, you can buy it by the roll and sew it like any other
material. In fact, a lot of people do this. They make pajamas, costumes, robes, or any other number of different
clothing items. Velour
is probably used more now then ever before, especially since it is so
comfortable!
